The Gambian kora player, singer and composer Dawda Jobarteh belongs to the new generation of young powerful musicians in today's global world. Born in 1976, Dawda Jobarteh grew up in a Mandinka griot traditional family. He inherited the musical profession from his grandfather Alhaji Bai Konteh, his two uncles Malamin Jobarteh and Dembo Konteh, and from his father Amadou Bansang Jobarteh.
At the age of 20, Jobarteh was already on his first European tour, and in 1997 he was personally invited by Peter Gabriel on an international tour including several WOMAD festivals. In 1999 Dawda moved to Denmark where he is still living and playing in different musical line-ups. Over the years he has played with a number of distinguished musicians including Tata Dindin, Youssef Latif, Moussa Diallo, Muktar Samba, Toumani Diabaté and Bassekou Kouyaté.
