Sauti za Busara 2010

Feb 2010

Tue 16, 6:00pm Sau Inn, Jambiani

During 2005 two young and talented Tanzanian artists Mussa Ramadhan and Juma Ally came up with the idea of forming a traditional dance group as a means of creating self employment. They brought together a group of five men and three women. Playing a variety of ngoma styles mostly from around Zanzibar and southern regions of Tanzania, Shirikisho Sanaa has matured fast.

The energy, creativity and variety of their performances have been the reasons for regular invitations to participate at festivals and other events around the island. The group was officially registered by Zanzibar Arts Council in May 2006 and now consists of fifteen artists, six of whom are women. Their performances include dancing on stilts, wearing Makonde masks, fire dancing as well as female and male initiation ceremony dances from the different tribes of southern Tanzania.

Instruments used in their performances include a variety of ngoma drums, a locally made hi-hat, shakers, zumari (traditional horn played by circular breathing), bells and whistles.
