100 Years of Ikhwan Safaa of Zanzibar (2011) Zanzibar. One of the oldest institutions in Zanzibar today is the taarab musical club Nadi Ikhwan Safaa - “The True Brotherhood Club.” Established in 1905, Poetry and Motion follows the club’s fascinating musical journey through colonialism, revolution and widespread social change, up to the celebration of its 100th anniversary.
Follow the genesis of the genre Burger Highlife – a fusion of Ghana’s well loved highlife music, reformed by Ghanaian musicians in the recording studios of Dusseldorf and Berlin. Accompanied by music and interviews with top highlife stars, the film tells the story of how this specific brand of fusion music came about.
Video Specials: Sauti za Busara presents a selection of the latest music videos coming out of East Africa: back-to-back clips from the region’s most loved performers of bongo flava, soul, hiphop, muziki wa dansi, ragga, pop and more… After 10pm, come to the amphitheatre to give your dancing feet a break and enjoy all the main stage action streamed by live video feed. |
