Yoga

Zanzibar based Yoga teacher, Jo Fox will be holding yoga classes throughout the festival. Sessions will be held in the beautiful, historic and atmospheric Mbweni Ruins, just a short drive from Stone Town between 4.30pm and 6pm on Wed 8, Fri 10 and Sun 12 February 2012. Come and strengthen, rejuvenate and detox the body, leaving yourself fresh and ready to enjoy all Busara has to offer.
Please bring water and something to work on. There will be a limited number of spare mats.

Capoeira, Taarab and Ngoma with the legendary Zawose

Mtoni Palace is hosting a unique feast of a programme. Starting at sunset, Zanzibar’s Mohammed Matona and Mzee Kheri, will perform together with the legendary Zawose a traditional musical fusion of Wagogo and Zanzibar styles. This is where the zeze, marimba, hudungu (stringed Uganda instrument) and mbira (thumb piano) will combine with the ngoma styles of the islands, performed by some of Tanzania’s most accomplished musicians.
Following that Stone Town Capoeira will dance accompanied by a varied live traditional taarab programme including including Longa, Samai, Situr and many more.

Welcome to one of the world's best kept secrets, from Zanzibar. The Maulidi ya Homu is a unique Swahili Islamic tradition, both visually and acoustically spectacular, and one of only three remaining groups in the world still practicing this religious art form.
This will be an exclusive show from 8:30 – 10:30pm.
Please meet at 7:45pm at the Old Fort to be escorted to Zizi la Ng'ombe, by their Madrasa.
