Country Tanzania Genres band pop urban Festival Sauti za Busara 2005 Stara is fine example of the new generation of artists in Tanzanian modern music. She sings r'n'b, soul and zouk in Swahili language.
Originally from Mwanza District, Stara began singing at the age of seven and whilst still at secondary school was performing on stage with other well established Tanzanian groups such as The Kilimanjaro Band and In Africa Band. Whilst still a teenager Stara wrote her first song, Children's Right and two years later her second song was released, My Body – both being in English language.
Stara really came into her own in 2000 when she started singing in Swahili, and soon had a string of hits being played repeatedly on national radio, including Sikia (Listen), Mimi na Wewe (Me & You) included on the album Nyuma Sito Rudi (Never Go Back). Her talent received some recognition in 2003 when Stara won the Kilimanjaro Music Award for Best Female Vocalist in Tanzania.
In 2004 Stara released Hadithi (Story), her second album and is already busy again working on the third.
