Ahmed Djamil Ghouli aka DJAM is a charismatic and energetic singer-songwriter and performer from Algiers. In 2004, whilst studying at university, he started improvising Gnawa standards and creating original compositions. Enthusiastic responses gave him the motivation to create the Djmawi Africa band. Their first album “Mama” (2007) was highly acclaimed, holding the #1 position for two years in Algeria. A memorable tour followed across the country, establishing a loyal fan base who Djamil enjoys interacting with on social media.
The group later toured in Burkina Faso, Mali, Senegal, Cameroon, Egypt, India, Brazil, France, Italy, Morocco and were a massive hit with Sauti za Busara festival audiences in Zanzibar during 2015.
For five years, Djamil has been living in France completing a master in Musicology at the Paris University. He now has a new team of talented musicians around him for the DJAM project, all sharing his groove and sonic vision.
For Djam, music is everything. He is always on the look out to discover and share new sounds. His first ‘solo’ album ‘Zdeldel’ was released in 2018, entirely self-produced. Its main influences are African and reggae music.
