Diana Samkange, aka ‘MaNgwenya’ is a Zimbabwean musician based in Harare.

She started her career with an urban music group called 2BG (Two Boys & A Girl) but after a short stint was groomed by the legendary Zimbabwean Afro-Jazz musician Tanga Wekwa Sando, who intensively tutored her vocal skills.

MaNgwenya comes from a family with a strong musical background. Her home environment was surrounded by relatives who were songwriters, choir directors and song composers. She grew up listening to family members for inspiration hence choosing the path she has vowed to ultimately keep on.

MaNgwenya strongly believes her music is a spiritual journey as guided by the Creator and also by her roots and her Shona traditional culture and beliefs.  As well as being a professional musician who plays mbira, she is also a spiritual counsellor.

Over the years MaNgwenya has worked with numerous high profile producers in Zimbabwe, namely TBA ‘The Play Boy’, Russo, MacDee, Jairosi Hambahamba, Clive Mono Mkundu, Munya Vialy and Oskid. In 2014 she performed at the Harare International Festival of the Arts (HIFA). In 2015 and 2016, she toured UK. MaNgwenya has shared the stage with many other big names from the region, including Oliver Mtukudzi, Ringo Madlingozi and Zahara.  She has been nominated for three Pachedu Awards and the Zima Award for Best Traditional Music.
