Mamy Kanouté was born into a family of Senegalese griots, the famed singers and musicians that constitute a repository of West African oral tradition, history and culture.

She has collaborated regularly with other Senegalese music legends, including Youssou N'Dour, Baaba Maal, Omar Pène, and Didier Awadi. She has also worked with international artists, including being featured on Jamaican jazz guitarist Ernest Ranglin's legendary album ‘In Search of the Lost Riddim’ and ‘African Divas’, by French DJ Frédéric Galliano.

More recently, Mamy Kanouté graced the soundtrack of the US blockbuster "Black Panther" (2018). After two self-penned albums, ‘The East Wind’ (1994) and ‘Mousso Lou’ (2012), she is now working on her third release with music producer Fred Hirschy, a new work exploring hiphop, modern sounds and electronic influences, at the same time remaining true to her traditional core.
