Sampa The Great weaves lyrical mazes with her thought provoking verses, drawing listeners into a lush, imaginative world.
Her music bonds from spoken-word to rap, with stops at psychedelic and blues along the way; it’s the sound of an adventurous young mind pushing against all boundaries.
Sampa’s rise has been spectacular. After releasing two mixtapes, The Great Mixtape (2015) and Birds and the BEE9 (2017), the Zambian-born, Botswana-raised artist shared her debut album ‘The Return’ in 2019.
The Return was Busara Promotions’ Album of the Year in 2019. It blends hiphop, neo-soul, gospel, afrobeat and jazz. It opens conversations on freedom, expression, heritage and displacement.
It is a walk to self-discovery, a climb to enlightenment as fuelled by Sampa’s experiences living in Australia, and physical, spiritual and cultural inspirations from her ancestral home in Zambia.
Entertaining audiences across the globe, Sampa has won a wave of adoring fans with her live shows.
She has performed at many of the world’s most iconic festivals, including Glastonbury, Splendour in the Grass, Sugar Mountain, Vivid Live, Dark Mofo, Love Supreme Jazz Festival, Down the Rabbit Hole, BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn, Bushfire and more.
In great company, she performed opening shows supporting music heavyweights including Burna Boy, Kendrick Lamar, Ms Lauryn Hill, Thundercat, Ibeyi and Little Simz.
