Shamsi Music is an afro-jazz fusion band from Nairobi, which prides itself in creating memorable musical experiences that capture the heart, mind and soul. At the core of their journey is the desire to create music that mirrors the sound of their heartland, Kenya, and their Motherland, Africa.
Their sound can be described as Kenyan folk jazz infused with enchanting melodies and solid rhythms.
Shamsi Music came together in 2014 under the visionary leadership of Paul Mbithi and Laka Waithaka, after playing together at a charity concert. Barely two years later, they were the youngest band ever to be selected to feature at the Safaricom International Jazz Festival, sharing the stage with Fatoumata Diawara, Roberto Fonseca, David Sanborn and Manu Dibango. People quickly fell in love with their music, and they proceeded to win the Café Ngoma Award for Best Jazz Act 2017.
In 2018, they performed at the Festival Jazzy Koum Ben in Bamako, Mali, at DoaDoa East African Performing Arts Market and Bayimba Festival in Uganda.
