Shamte Mohammed aka S Kide is a composer and singer of the urban singeli style. The youthful and energetic singeli music and dance craze emerged from the ‘ghetto’ suburbs of Dar es Salaam in recent years - and is rapidly attracting attention beyond the borders of Tanzania.
S Kide was born and raised in Dar es Salaam. His music journey started when he was only 9 years old. Gathering his mates to sing mchiriku style during school breaks, he soon gained a lively following.
Owing to financial difficulties, after completing primary school he was not able to proceed with secondary education, and this is when he started to focus strictly on music. In 2005, S Kide released his debut single “Nakwenda Vikindu”. Friends and fans advised him to continue in the music scene.
In 2008, he was invited to perform at a concert organised by Times FM that also featured Fuse ODG from Ghana. This massively increased his confidence and popularity. In 2009, he performed alongside local artists including Alikiba, Yamoto Band, Madee and Snura at the Concert Against Malaria campaign.
Since then, S Kide has recorded 150 songs, including “Diamond Kabla Hajatoka” that currently has half a million views on YouTube.
