They are a vibrant and upbeat band, as their name in Swahili suggests, playing different genres of music such as pop, jazz, taarab and fusion.
The band formed in 2015 to perform regular free live concerts at the Forodhani Gardens and other open spaces around Zanzibar Town.
Mcharuko Band has five artists, all aged under 25: Christopher John – arranger/vocals, Ephraim John -assistant arranger/bass guitar, Robert John- keyboards, Richard Charahani - lead/solo guitar, James Clemence - drums.
