Juhudi Taarab
Country Pemba Genres taarab Festival Sauti za Busara 2012 Established over 70 years ago, Juhudi Taarab is a Zanzibari treasure – a traditional taarab group with members hailing from all regions of Pemba. For nearly three generations, they have kept the taarab tradition alive and currently feature many celebrated artists and composers known throughout the region, such as Malik Wastara and Fatma Bakari. Juhudi percussionists, accordionists, and singers provide audiences with a real treat as they perform the local favourites, forever building a loyal following. One of a select number of Pemban acts at Sauti za Busara 2012, their performance will feature one of Pemba’s most famous composers, Ali Said Wazera, known most for the taarab classic “Bora Niombe” meaning “Better I Ask”. Full of local history and culture, Juhudi Taarab is one act to wait in the front row for! Their appearance at the festival has been made possible by the Swahili Performing Arts Center in collaboration with ZanAir.
