Liza Kamikazi is a singer, composer and actor. She did her theatre training at the Centre of the Arts at the National University of Rwanda, where she also completed a degree in Communications. In 2013 Liza pre-launched her album Iwacu back home. In February the same year she performed with her band at the Panafrican Festival of Dance (Fespad) as well as at Jamafest, a new East African music festival in Rwanda. Her songs Kigali and More than a dream were nominated in the East African Music Awards in 2011. In 2011 she toured in Canada. In the DRC, she performed in the Bukavu Participatory Theatre Festival and the Reconciliation Festival in Uvira. She played a lead role in the short film We Are All Rwandans by British filmmaker Debs Gardner, and a role in the French feature film Zone Turquoise. Liza Kamikazi sings afro-fusion. Musically, Liza’s talents took her to Nairobi where she recorded and launched her debut album Hobeeee in 2010. She released several songs on local radio, and her tune Usiniache Baby was a hit all over East Africa. Liza composed music for national events such as Miss Rwanda 2009, annual commemoration ceremonies, and the national liberation day of Rwanda. She has also done performances with children for community events on awareness-raising topics. Liza is one of the founders of Kaami Arts, an organization that promotes arts for children. In 2014, Liza composed Urumuri Rutazima, the anthem song for the 20th commemoration of the Rwandan genocide. It was performed by different groups of children in 30 districts of Rwanda and culminated in a 1,000 cast show in the national stadium during the opening ceremony.
